A healthy environment provides suitable living conditions for human beings such as air, food, water, etc. The equilibrium of the earth must be maintained for the continuous availability of the natural resources. But the increasing population is having a toll on our environment. Over consumption of the natural resources are leading them towards the depletion. Therefore, we need to take some serious measures to protect our environment.

  1. Limit the amount of electricity in everyday life. Turn off the lights, fans, AC’s, TV, computers, etc. when not in use. Unplug the electrical devices when they are not in working or charging mode. Replace the traditional incandescent with LEDs at home as they consume less energy and saves both electricity and money.
  2. Lower your consumption of water for day-to-day activities. Take short showers, turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, and run the dishwasher and washing machine only when fully loaded. Conserve the rainwater to water the plants and flowers.
  3. Plants are the primary source of oxygen. To keep the supply of oxygen abundant, plant as many trees as possible. It will improve the quality of the air we breathe, the level of pollution will decrease, and the global warming effect will be reduced.
  4. Bring your eco-friendly bags from home instead of buying plastic and paper bags from shops when you go for shopping or purchasing groceries.
  5. Create a compost bin in your garden to dump the waste food and biodegradable materials. This way the wasted food could be used to prepare manure, a natural fertilizer for fruits and vegetables.
  6. Try to minimize the utilization of the personal car for everyday travel and use carpooling or public transport as much as you can. Prefer walking or cycling for covering short distance travel. It will reduce the carbon emissions, greenhouse gases effect, and help you burn calories that will improve your health.
  7. The waste materials such as glass, plastic, metal, paper, etc. which are dumped in the open area release harmful chemicals and greenhouse gases, which is dangerous for the environment. So recycling the products that are no longer in use will lessen the greenhouse gas emissions, decrease the pollution, and keep our environment healthy and protected.
  8. Do not dump the chemicals and waste products of factories and industries in water bodies as they contaminate the water of the sea and rivers. These chemicals cause harm to the sea animals which are consumed by the human beings.
  9. Use natural fertilizers such as manure, cow dung, etc. in the production of fruits and vegetables, which is beneficial for both health and the environment. The organic food prepared using all natural means is highly nutritional and safe for the human body. The food produced using chemical fertilizers have low nutritional value, contributes to various health problems, and intoxicate the soil and water.
  10. Smoking not only damages the health but also affect the environment by polluting the air. Many chemicals are present in the cigarettes which are released into the atmosphere by smoking it. Millions of cigarette butts that are dumped in the open ground or water bodies’ causes land and water pollution. To stop smoking will keep the air fresh and safe around us.
