The public is now more aware of the importance of high nutritional value and health benefits that the organic food provides. On the one hand, the conventional food is produced using chemical fertilizers that have little nutritional value and contributes to various health problems while on the contrary, the organic food is free from the adulteration of any chemical substance. There are numerous benefits of consuming organic food for the human health and environment.

High Nutritional Value

Organic food is grown by all natural means without the use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides, which makes it healthier and safer. It does not contain the saturated fats and has essential elements like protein, vitamin, and iron in the high quantity that is beneficial for the well-being of humans. The organic food does not contain any artificial preservatives; therefore, their shelf life is shorter, which makes the organic fruits and vegetables more nutritious as they need to be consumed soon.


Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are the plants whose genes are modified using genetic engineering techniques so that it takes the favorable characteristics to be resistant to pesticides or produce an insecticide. Studies have revealed that consumption of GMO can lead to serious health risks, such as internal organ damage, slow brain growth, etc. Therefore, the use of GMOs is strictly prohibited during the production of organic food. Non-organically grown animals are fed with antibiotics on the constant basis that may weaken our immune system and make it unable to fight against diseases on consumption of these meat products. Organically grown animals are not given any antibiotics or growth hormone which makes the organic meat, poultry, and dairy products completely safe for human health and immune system.

Eliminates the Contamination of Soil and Water

Use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides degrade the fertility of the soil, they penetrate deep into the ground and pollute the underground water which is the prime source of drinking water in many parts of the world. As organic food production avoids the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, it eliminates the contamination of soil and underground water. Natural fertilizers like manure, compost and dung are used to grow organic fruits and vegetables that reduce the soil erosion and increase its richness.

Preserve Wildlife

Some harmful pesticides and insecticides are used in the production of conventional food that not only killed pests but other beneficial insects including honeybees, birds, etc. Organic farming avoids the use of herbicides or pesticides, use natural pest control measures, and maintain field hedges and boundaries which provide a haven for the wildlife.
